Sapphire Universe by Devon Herrera ~ Blog Tour

 Synopsis:

Simple rules made for a simple purpose. Nina Ryan learned early on in life that if you want to avoid being hurt, you need to be proactive. If you pay attention the Universe will always steer you in the right direction. It will help keep you safe. So, she follows the rules, and she is safe. Until Connor Wright barges his way through all her carefully laid defenses and threatens to destroy the comfortable life she has created. Faithfully following her #1 rule, Nina tries to accept that the Universe has pushed Connor and her lives together for a purpose. Determined to make Nina his, Connor chips away at the walls Nina has placed around her heart and her secrets. Is Nina following the signs that will lead her down the right path, or does Connor hold secrets of his own that will ruin Nina for good? Only the Universe knows.

 Excerpt:

“This is a really, really bad idea!” I throw my hands out to the side as my feet slide forward ahead of the rest of my body. My torso wobbles back and forth for a few seconds before I finally maintain my balance. Ice-skatingHow in the hell did I get talked into this? I mean really, who came up with this ridiculous concept anyway. What kind of person says, “Oh I know, let’s go put razor blades on our shoes and run on some ice! Someone who wants Nina Ryan dead that’s who. I finally brave a glance up from my feet and see that Connor is barely suppressing a laugh at my expense. “What?!
“Nina, as entertaining as the thought is, I highly doubt ice skating was invented for the sole purpose of ending your life.” He smirks at me. Damn that smirk. And damn my stupid, rebel mouth.
“I said that all out loud huh?” I sigh. “Whatever, this is a bad idea. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to take another ride to the hospital for a good long while.” Connor just laughs at me again.
“Come on Nina, you can’t avoid doing things just because you’re afraid you will get hurt.” His eyes soften a little as he says this and it’s pretty obvious that he isn’t just talking about ice skating anymore.
“Connor, you don’t understand. I’ll fall. I always fall and I don’t do it gracefully. I land hard and I usually break something. I’m a walking disaster just waiting to happen. Don’t you understand?” Well hell, maybe I’m not talking about ice skating either.
“I understand Nina, but this time it’s different.”
“Why? How could this time possibly be any different than the others?” I throw my arms up in the air in frustration and I immediately lose my balance and start to teeter on the thin edges of my blades. Just when I think I’m about to go ass over tea kettle, Connor grabs both of my arms and holds me in place, steadying me. My eyes make their way to his and he reaches one hand out to brush a stray hair from my vision and tucks it behind my ear.
“It’s different, because this time I’m here to catch you.” He whispers, sending frightening flutters to my stomach. When I don’t respond, he moves to stand next to me and we slowly begin to glide forward.
It takes me a few minutes to get the motions right, but I eventually set a steady rhythm of one foot in front of the other and am gliding across the ice just a little unsteadily. I haven’t looked up from the ice once out of fear that I’ll lose my footing, but after the seventh lap around the rink, I feel warm fingers start to toy with my palm before threading through my own and squeezing gently. I abandon my focus to look up at Connor who is smiling at me. We move around the rink a few more times in silence and the longer he holds my hand, the more comfortable I am with it. It starts to feel necessary. I want his touch. No, I need him to touch me. And that’s precisely why I pull from his grasp and pretend to fuss with my hair before dropping my hand down to my side and ball it in a fist.
Comfort is dangerous. Need is a handicap. Once you get comfortable with something, you stop paying attention. You lose focus on the things that matter and you take things for granted. Comfort gives you a false sense of security and you start to ignore your instincts. You forget to look around you and defend yourself. Need is much more lethal though, because when you need something, you can’t live without it and nothing is forever.
“Nina...” I fake indifference when I look over at Connor so he won’t see the depth of my internal conflict. I wait for him to speak, still keeping my fingers tight against my palm. “Never mind.” He huffs. “I’m going to go get something to drink over there at the concession. Do you want anything?” I shake my head and he frowns silently at me for a few seconds before turning
and skating away. I watch his retreating form glide across the rink and step down to walk over to the concession as I resume my carful skating.
I’ve never wanted to be brave before. All those years ago the only thing I wished for was understanding and a second chance. I now understand why those things happened to me and my family, but I’m still working on the second. If I give in to these feelings, I’ll just end up right back where I was nine years ago. Curled in a ball on my bed, crying painful tears, itching with mental filth and unable to move, paralyzed with devastation. I was able to push past it and start fresh then, but life is not a baseball game. For me, there will be no third strike. I don’t want to even chance the second. I know all of this to be true, so why do I find myself wanting to take a chance even knowing the risks. I never asked for courage, I never asked for a chance to prove myself. I just wanted to get through this life without being dealt another devastating blow. Just make it to the other side with one less scar.

About the Author:

I am a wife of a U.S Army Soldier and mother of a beautiful little girl. I work for the Wyoming Department of Revenue in Cheyenne Wyoming, and no we don't still ride horses out here. I've been in love with reading since I first discovered the Harry Potter series in 4th grade. I don't just read a good book I devour it. After reading hundreds of novels I finally bit the bullet and sat down to write one of my own. I had an idea in my head and as soon as I started writing, the story seemed to play out right infront of me. Nothing has ever felt so natural. About 10 chapters into it I decided that I was going to take the plunge and get it self published as an Ebook. "Sapphire Universe" is a Contemporary Romance novel for adults, because lets face it, I'm female. Romance is what I like to read so it's what I'm going to write. I'll be posting some teasers and keeping you up to date on my progress as I finish writing and editing. Thank you so much for your support, and I can't wait for you to read "Sapphire Universe."

Painted Lines by Brei Betzold ~ Blog Tour ~ Alt. POV

Synopsis:

Scout has always wanted to follow in her family’s business of custom bike building. Being female never stopped her from getting greasy and slapping on paint with the best of them, and made her work even harder at opening up her own shop someday.
When an opportunity to win $500,000 dollars in prize money presents itself, Scout and her group of misfit friends sign on the dotted line to be filmed for a reality television show to win it. But like anything in life there’s always a catch to free money.
When nightmares of the past meet dreams of the future, Scout is forced to face her demons, or be quickly over run by the memories. In the midst of her inner turmoil, family will come home, and possibly a life she never expected to have could be within her grasp.

Alternate POV:

First time Thayne sees Scout…

I was heading into the building of the address I was given to talk to someone about our housing arrangement. There was no way in hell I was allowing my sister to live anywhere near all of those guys.  Hell I didn’t want to live with any of those guys, the thoughts of my 16 year old sister near them could give me a coronary.  I opened the door when all of a sudden this girl rams right in to me, she barely even looks up as she mumbles an apology while she’s nearly running like the hounds of hell are after her.  I watch a bit confused, her teal colored hair is the first thing I notice, as she begins to shake her hands while pacing back in forth.  As I’m debating going over and making sure she’s ok three guys run out looking around.  They set their sightson the small woman and quickly walk over there, one pulling her into a bone crushing hug.  I shrug my shoulders and headed in to search out this producer guy.
I walk in thinking about what that was about outside and look around, the place is a madhouse with people running around.  I ask someone where I could find Marc and they point out this guy in a suit that is surrounded by people.  I sigh and spin around to head back outside, I would just wait a few minutes and try again when he wasn’t so busy.
I walk outside and find the same four people outside where I left them, only now the woman seems to have calmed down.  I lean against the wall and pull out my pack of cigarettes and light one up watching her.  She’s hot, I can’t deny that, and now she seems to be laying down the law with the other three who watch her as if she hung the moon.  I can’t blame them since I can’t seem to rip my eyes from her either.
Her teal hair is pulled back in a ponytail and is whipping around while she continues talking, the white tank top molds to her body showing off her curves, and the faded stained blue jeans mold to her ass.  Finally she spins around and heads back towards the doors, never once looking at me, but I watch her.  She looks over her shoulder at one of the guys she’s with and I take a quick inhale when I finally see her face.  She’s even more beautiful than I realized, her smile causes the piercings in her cheeks to dimple and her emerald eyes flash.  I have to find out who she is.

Consequences by Aleatha Romig ~ Blog Tour

Consequences by Aleatha Roming
Review, Teaser & Giveaway

Synopsis:

Besieged by memories of a brutal abduction, Claire Nichols wakes in an unfamiliar bedroom, within a luxurious mansion. Her recollections have one common denominator, the man she just met, Anthony Rawlings.
Unbeknownst to Claire, for a very long time, she has been within Anthony’s sights. Many of the pivotal events in her life occurred, due to his sinister manipulation. Every action has a consequence, and his actions result in their chance meeting.

More than a psychological thriller, Consequences is a vivid story of one woman’s struggle to survive incomprehensible circumstances. Every aspect of her being suddenly depends upon the tall, wealthy, dark haired, dark eyed businessman. Anthony Rawlings is known to the world as prosperous, benevolent, and kind. Claire quickly learns that he can also be a menacing controlling captor.

With few options but concession, Claire attempts to earn her freedom, while enduring a hellish existence that truly appears perfect. Persevering tests and trials, she struggles to retain her pure Midwest values and beliefs. Encouraged by memories of a loving upbringing, she gains strength in the simplest of joys: solitude in nature and good in the face of evil.

His goal in sight, Anthony’s calculated agenda encounters an unforeseen detour. He becomes captivated by Claire’s beauty, resilience, and determination. The interaction of these two compelling characters instigates strong emotions: fear, anger, love, and lust. Claire and Anthony’s tumultuous journey flows into uncharted waters of intrigue and passion.

Utilizing vivid detail, this 167,000-word novel unfolds like a movie, before the eyes of its readers. From the opening criminal abduction, through twists and turns, to the unlikely romantic thrills, the suspense climaxes as Anthony’s motivation becomes evident.

Anthony and Claire must decide if they will stay true to one another, or allow preceding actions to result in justifiable Consequences.

Dream Cast

Teaser:

“For the sake of clarity, since that seemed to be a problem in the past, you are aware that your indebtedness to me can only be determined paid by me?”
Claire swallowed. This is what she anticipated, smiling she nodded, yes.
His voice, strong and authoritative, “I prefer verbal confirmation.”
“I am aware that you are the only one who can decide when my debt is paid in full.” The calmness of her voice surprised even Claire. She said a silent prayer that he wouldn’t notice her hands balled into fists with her nails biting into her own palms. If she concentrated, she could remember to relax her hands. But at this moment, her concentration was needed elsewhere.
“You are also aware that your duties require you to be available to me whenever, wherever, and however I demand?” His dark eyes never faltered, staring directly at her, yet his body language looked relaxed, arrogant. He was definitely a man willing to push Claire to the brink. It was like watching a poker game, pushing the odds. Would there be a payoff? Or would someone blink?
“I am aware.”
“You’re aware that you must at all times obey my rules?” Anthony’s eyes penetrated.
“I’m aware that I must do as I’m told.” The words hurt her throat but sounded easily spoken. She was not going to let him fluster her. And damn, she didn’t need that skin on her palms anyway. Her smile remained steady and undaunted.
Anthony remained silent for an extended period of time, watching Claire. Finally, he spoke, “Very well.” He stood. Claire expected some kind of directive. Instead, he walked toward the door.
“Wait.” She proclaimed. He turned to look at her, displaying astonishment at her command. She immediately realized her words overstepped her bounds, but she couldn’t go on locked alone in the suite. Her tone softened. “I’m sorry, but may I leave this suite?”
“As long as we are certain on the terms of our agreement and you follow the rules and orders given, I see no problem with you roaming the house.” He reached for the door handle. “It is rather large. I’ll be working from home tomorrow. Your services will be utilized then, so be prepared for my call. When I have a chance, I’ll give you a tour of the house and define your limitations. I think it is best that you do not roam tonight. I don’t want you getting lost.” She heard the beep as he grabbed the lever.
“Anthony? I don’t have any...duties tonight?” Her voice began to fail her. She sounded less like the strong, lighthearted woman she desperately tried to project and more like a child.
“I have recently arrived from a series of meetings in Europe and am quite tired. I’m glad to know we have a mutual understanding. Good night, Claire.”
“Good night, Anthony.”

Nikki & Janessa's Review:

5+++++ Stars!!!

Where do we even begin? The web Ms. Romig weaves is complex, raw, gritty, and mind-blowingly awesome! From start to finish we could not put it down! We had no idea how it was going to end! There were quite a few times we had to stop reading to try and wrap our minds around some kind of information and try to piece some of the pieces to the puzzle together. This is pretty much what we looked like:
 photo gif.gif

We tried and tried to figure out what was going on, but alas, just when we thought we had everything figured out BAM something else was thrown in! We found ourselves asking this a lot:

 photo whygif.gif

Claire Nichols is one of the strongest heroine's we've had the pleasure of reading about. Her life as she knew it is gone. When most women would probably fall apart, Claire decides she is going to survive. No matter what it takes. Her determination to make it through her struggles with not only Tony but her solitude and loneliness proves what a solid character she is.

Enter Anthony Rawlings:

 photo enteringgif.gif

 photo tonygif.gif

Tony is one of the most complicated, thrilling, scary, sweet, confusing characters we've ever met! We have never had such an intense love/hate relationship with a fictional character in our lives!!
Sometimes Tony made us want to do this:

 photo legogif.gif

Other times he made us want to do this:

 photo gifhappy.gif

See what we mean? We still are not sure whether we love him or hate him but we are completely enamored by him.
There were so many moments that left us speechless. We cant even put into words. It went a little something like this:

 photo hidinggif.gif

 photo omggif-1.gif

 photo ineedamomentgif.gif

And the sex scenes we thought were done perfectly. They had just the right amount of steam and intensity. There were times where you lust for Tony and want nothing more for them to be together,

 photo joegif.gif

and other times you want her to get the hell out of there!

 photo rungif.gif

When we reached the end of the book and realized it was a cliffhanger, we were like:

 photo grrrgif.gif

 photo cliffhangergif.gif

Suffice to say, we did not want it to end. We immediately had to have Truth!
So if you haven't yet purchased Consequences then do so NOW and while your at it pick up Truth because trust me when we say that you will NEED to know what happens next! If you have Consequences already but haven't read it yet, then what are you waiting for?! Open it up and devour it! It left us with the biggest book hangover we have ever had!! We couldn't even sleep because we were still trying to figure out the enigma that is Anthony Rawlings.
This was us days after finishing Consequences:

After pulling ourselves together and gathering our thoughts, this was pretty much our reaction:

BRAVO! Ms. Romig! Consequences easily became one of our all-time favorite books!

We HIGHLY recommend this book, this series, and this author!!

Review for My Now & Forever HJ Bellus - Guest Reviewer Bethany Castaneda

Review for:
My Now & Forever
HJ Bellus

Review by Bethany Castaneda
Bethany is a guest reviewer for the HEA Book Shelf Blog but has agreed to do guest reviews for us from time to time. We are very excited to have her here with us! She mentioned to fellow BJA Admin. Janessa that she loved this book and that she had wrote a review for it and we offered to post it for her. (This is in no way an ARC, but just a book a reader purchased and loved.)
It's only her second review and we think she did an awesome job!
Hope you enjoy her review! We sure did!

Synopsis: Whose parents abandon them in a trashy trailer when they are five years old? Oh Yeah! Mine do!

Hey Hoochies! I'm Milly, and I am tired of taking kicks to the gut. A broken family, an asshole husband and the loss of loved ones have left me crying Uncle, and declaring a serious case of the Fuck-Its!

I found my soul sista from another mista, and opened my dream shop along the way. They forced my fragile heart to trust and love without fear.

Truth is, nobody’s past stays hidden forever. It’s an invisible monster waiting to attack and destroy. It has the capability to ruin everything you’ve worked to set right. All it takes is one final blow to the gut to end everything.

Bethany's Review:

BadAss Stars!!

Let’s preface this review with WOW. Ok…just WOW. First book for HJ Bellus….and she seriously gives a whole new meaning to BadAss….as in Milly reeks of sexy badassery. This amazing story is not a sappy love story that gives you one turn and another and then leaves you hanging….oh nooo! This one takes the bull by the horns and you better hold on because it doesn’t slow down. This was a refreshingly fast paced, very easy to follow story that you couldn’t help but smile at. You couldn’t help but imagine the scenarios….with YOU in it. This book was so refreshing….so different, but so fun to read! It was truly amazing!

Clearly, tractors are sexy….and I am sure there is a song out there to prove it. When you have a love that is so strong that it surpasses all others…..hold onto it. Milly and Cree have foundthat love. They embody that love….and they have a no holds barred approach to it. The power and energy these two exude is contagious! She is busy checking off her bucket list….and he has no problems helping her go through them….and adding to them in the process.

“A tall, dark and very freakishly amazingly handsome man stood before me. He had a pair of faded blue jeans on and a buttoned up navy blue service shirt with his name printed on it. His dark messy hair, brown eyes and olive skin were doing damage to my panties.”

They deal with some pain, they deal with some heartache….they deal with some crap! But they deal….and they are a kick in the pants! Milly has NO problems telling it like it is and this story if full of her off the cuff, smartass remarks!

“I’m not too proud to kick a girl in her biscuit, and that’s exactly what Miss Bitch Face deserves.”
“If you think I am coming over for your cooking, then you’re not as smart as I thought you were”
“I’m convinced the world is out to make me her bitch today!”

After reading this book my grocery list got slightly longer…..follow. I will never again eat pumpkin pie without my sweetie….and I will never look at a blender for coffee the same way again. I might need to purchase some sprinkles…..I just might.
